North Battalion Structure Fire

Narrative:
On Saturday Sept 10th 2011 at 21:12, seven Companies of Spokane Firefighters, five engines, one senior ladder, one heavy rescue under the direction of Battalion Chiefs Donahoe and Sabo responded to a Structure Fire at 1816 E. Empire. Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire showing on the back side of a one story single family dwelling. Occupants in the front yard confirmed that everyone was accounted for and outside of the home. Trees and a home were identified as exposures due to the close proximity to the quick moving fire and were protected. Additionally, engine companies made an aggressive attack on the fire inside the structure which included the basement, the first floor and the attic. The Ladder Company provided ventilation of the roof and searched for extension of the fire. Companies remained on scene for several hours overhauling the fire. No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported.
Cause:
The cause of this fire remains under investigation by the Spokane Fire Department's Special Investigation Unit.
Damage:
There was extensive fire damage to the back half of the home on the first floor and roof. There was moderate fire damage to the basement and smoke damage throughout the home.
