NO ONE INJURED BY FIRES ON OPPOSITE SIDES OF CITY
HOME AND ANIMAL CLINC DAMAGED
**********************************************
Simultaneous unrelated structure fires on opposite sides of the city damaged a home and an animal clinic. No one was injured in either of the Friday afternoon incidents.
Firefighters responded to the first fire just after 1 pm. The fire at the Animal Clinic of Spokane in the 6300 block of north Wall was burning inside a ventilation chase. About an hour later, a homeowner in the 1000 block of east 38th Avenue reported smoke coming from the detached garage outside the home. Both fires were quickly extinguished before damage could spread.
Despite intense smoke and flames threatening adjacent homes, firefighters successfully confined the fire on 38th Avenue to the garage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The homeowners and pets were safe and the fire was extinguished in just 30 minutes, and no injuries were reported.
Across town at the animal clinic, firefighters successfully confined the fire to the ventilation system to limit damage. Crews had to remove a large area of roofing to stop the fire.
The incident utilized the benefits of Automatic Aid program that delivered a total of five engines, two truck companies and a command team of chief officers within minutes of dispatch. The Automatic Aid Program utilizes the closest resources, regardless of jurisdiction. The outcome of Automatic Aid is the improvement of citizen and firefighter safety.
