NARRATIVE: On the morning of July 6th at 4:22am the City of Spokane Fire Department responded to 533 West 27th to a reported basement fire. Engine Company 9 reported light smoke coming from the basement. An attack lead was advanced into the basement and the fire was extinguished. The fire was confined to a small pile of items next to the dryer and smoke throughout. The cause of the fire was an electrical extension cord that was rubbing under the dryer and became frayed. A smoke detector sounded the alarm and a family of four escaped to safety outside. The Spokane Fire Department would like to remind all citizens that working smoke detectors save lives. 3 engines, 1 ladder, 1 rescue and 2 command vehicles responded to this incident.
PROBABLE CAUSE: Frayed electrical cord to close to combustibles
DAMAGE EXTENT: A small pile of items and smoke throughout
