NARRATIVE: On Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 05:26 AM, 2 Companies of Spokane Firefighters and 2 Chief Officers responded to a reported building collapse at 6619 North Cedar. There were four businesses which inhabited the building, however only one was open. The building was occupied by three civilians at the time of the collapse and all three were outside the structure, safely, at the time of the call. The calling party also advised that he believed the utilities were not involved and the collapse appeared to be mainly in the north side.
When Firefighters arrived they reported a 100' x 130' building that had suffered a significant collapse on 30 percent of the structure. The companies secured a perimeter and limited access to only Fire and Utility Company personnel. The fire companies were able to safely secure the utilities and assist the water department in locating shut off's beneath the snow.
No injuries were reported and the Fire Department assisted occupants in securing their property and limiting loss to the best of their ability.
PROBABLE CAUSE: Snow load.
