South Battalion Cliff Rescue
Incident #: Date of Incident: 04/14/2014 Issuing Officer: BC Moline
Narrative:
On Monday, April 14th, 2014 at 5:34 P.M. the Spokane Fire Department responded on a report of a boy who had fallen from a cliff at Liberty Park in the East Central Neighborhood. Paramedic Engine 2 from their neighborhood station location of North Foothills and Nevada and the South Battalion Chief from a few blocks away responded to this call. Fire crews found a 6 year old boy with his father at the bottom of a 50 foot cliff. The boy was conscious and stable, however he suffered a fracture of the arm and a head wound. AMR Ambulance and additional crews called upon to assist, accessed a foot trail and brought their specialized pediatric equipment to treat the boy. After the boy was given emergency medical care and packaged for transport, he was transferred to the ambulance for a transport to Sacred Heart Hospital. Apparently, the boy was with his father somewhere near the edge on top of the cliff and fell, which resulted in his tumble down the sheer cliff to rocks below. Engine 7 from their station location of 1st and Magnolia also assisted in this call after clearing a previous EMS call.
