Smoke detector installation

Narrative:
Spokane Fire Department has a limited number of smoke detectors to install free of charge for low-income persons living inside the city limits of Spokane who either (1) have no working smoke detectors or (2) only have smoke detectors that are more than 10 years old. There are also a limited number of strobe light smoke detectors or Lifetone devices for persons who are hard of hearing or deaf.

These detectors are available through a grant to Spokane Fire Department from the Washington State Association of Fire Marshals. They are part of a Community Risk Reduction effort to remind every resident of the importance of working smoke detectors in their home. Two out of every three fire deaths in the United States occur in homes without working smoke detectors. Look at the back label on your detector to find the exact date of manufacture and whether the detector is ionization or photoelectric. No home smoke detector lasts more than 10 years. Every home should have at least one photoelectric smoke detector on every level.
