NARRATIVE: On Wednesday, May 12th, 2010 at 7:29 P.M. the Spokane Fire Department responded multiple fire apparatus to a report of an explosion and fire located near Sprague and Smith. First arriving fire crews found a small travel trailer parked on the street, involved in fire and a victim of the blast and fire lying nearby. The first in Advanced Life Support fire crew with a paramedic on board was assigned to patient care. The crew immediately began their assessment and treatment for the victim who apparently was inside the travel trailer. The victim was rushed to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center by AMR ambulance and Spokane Fire Department personnel. The victim sustained 40-50% burns to his hands, face, hair and back. The majority of these burns were 2nd and 3rd degree. The fire was quickly extinguished within a few minutes of the fire department's arrival. It was discovered that there were numerous propane bottles inside the travel trailer. The cause of this fire and civilian injury are unknown at this time but the situation remains under investigation by the Spokane Fire Department Special Investigation Unit.
PROBABLE CAUSE: The incident is under investigation by the Spokane Fire Department Special Investigation Unit.
DAMAGE EXTENT: Travel trailer was gutted by the fire.
