NARRATIVE: On Saturday September 12, 2009 at 08:40 AM a SFD Paramedic Engine Company was dispatched to a reported electrocution at 195/Meadowlane in southwest Spokane. The company arrived within nine minutes and found an adult male construction worker that had been working in an elevated boom device during the construction of a Church. During the manipulation of the boom, an overhead electrical line carrying 6700 volts of electricity made contact with the victim's head which caused critical injuries.

Another occupant of the boom was able to lower the device where Firefighter/Paramedics could provide life-saving treatment to the injured worker. The patient was treated and transported to Sacred Heart Hospital within 7-minutes of the fire Department's arrival and has subsequently been transferred to Harborview Hospital in Seattle where his condition is unknown at the time of this release.

No other workers or firefighters were injured as a result of the incident.


PROBABLE CAUSE: The Fire Prevention Division is assisting the Project Manager of the construction site in recovery. Power has been temporarily disconnected to the site until Monday when it can be thoroughly inspected by electricians. The cause of the incident is expected to be investigated by Washington Labor and Industries.
DAMAGE EXTENT: Critical injuries to a civilian.
