NARRATIVE: Side-by-Side Fires to be set by the Spokane Fire Department to help
Spokane residents understand risks and home safety technology.

WHO: Spokane Fire Department, Garco Construction, Advanced Fire Protection, Inland Empire Fire Chiefs, Spokane Fire Department Foundation, local supporting businesses, and featuring local officials and public leaders.

WHAT: A live, side-by-side fire and sprinkler burn demonstration that vividly shows the tremendous speed of a typical home fire and its potential for deadly destruction. Also illustrated is the vital importance of home fire safety technology that can save lives and reduce property damage (smoke alarms and home fire sprinkler systems). The demonstration is open to the public.

The presentation will include a general educational presentation regarding fire sprinklers and a discussion after the fires are extinguished. Attendees will be able to look at the difference between fire sprinkler damage and fire hose damage.

WHEN: Wednesday, September 30, 2009, 1:00 PM

WHERE: North Bank Park, north parking lot, 507 W. Cataldo Avenue

WHY: More than 80 percent of all fire deaths occur in the home. The Spokane Fire Department is using this important event to help people of every age understand how dangerous a home fire is and how important prevention, detection, suppression and escape truly are.
