DATE OF INCIDENT: 4/1/2010
INCIDENT TYPE: Special Rescue
INCIDENT ADDRESS: 32nd/Ray
CITY: Spokane
STATE: WA

NARRATIVE: On Thursday, April 1, 2010 at 2:19 PM, 5 Companies of Spokane Firefighters, 2 Senior Ladders, 1 Pumper-Ladder, 1 Engine, 1 Heavy Rescue under the direction of Battalion Chiefs Sabo and Brown, responded to a motor-vehicle crash with entrapment at East 32nd Avenue and South Ray Street.

First arriving firefighters rapidly determined that a vehicle has rolled over subsequently trapping an adult male patient. Bystanders were assisting the other three occupants (children ages 4 y/o, 7 y/o and 11 months) near the crash site. The three children were apparently assisted by a Good Samaritan which used a floor jack to raise an opening in the vehicle for the children to escape.

Chief Sabo arrived and assumed command within minutes of the first company's arrival. He ordered an additional three ambulances which triggered the response of the AMR Supervisor and additional FD staff. Swift and decisive action by SFD Firefighter/Paramedics allowed a successful triage of all patients within minutes, mechanical extrication of the driver from the vehicle (24 y/o) and trauma activation at Sacred Heart Hospital. Spokane Firefighter/Paramedics continued to treat and transport the patients in AMR ambulances to Sacred Heart Hospital.

No firefighter or bystander injuries were reported as a result of the incident. The patient's statuses are unknown at the time of this release.
