NARRATIVE: The Spokane Fire Department is celebrating National Public Safety Telecommunications Week this week (April 12-16) and honoring the 19 SFD personnel in Fire Dispatch, the 14 Fire Agencies we serve and our partners in 911 and Law Dispatch.

The week is sponsored by the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International and celebrated annually. The event honors the thousands of men and women who respond to emergency calls, dispatch emergency professionals and equipment, and render life-saving assistance to the world's citizens.

The SFD's Combined Communication Center (CCC) is state of the art and staffed with some of the most dedicated and competent personnel in the business. A day in the life of a SFD Dispatcher may include helping to save a life by instructing a caller on CPR, instructing a father how to deliver a baby, helping a person find an exit during a fire or simply be a life saver on the end of the line when someone is having the worst day of their life. The SFD Dispatchers are truly mission-critical every minute of every day--and the community of Spokane is truly safer because of them.
