Media Release

Sandy Hook School Shooting

Incident #:
Date of Incident: 12/14/2012
Issuing Officer: AC Schaeffer

Narrative:
All of the members of the SFD are shocked and overwhelmed by the horrendous tragedy of the school shooting in Sandy Hook, Connecticut.  We hold the victims, their families, the first responders, dispatchers and all who are affected by the shooting in our thoughts and prayers for healing and strength.

As an organization, we are simply overcome with grief at the enormous loss of innocent young lives today.  Spokane’s first responders, many are parents, came home tonight and drew their children and family members closer.  Our thoughts are also with those surviving victims and their families who now face a lifetime of healing.

While our community remains perplexed and angry that this type of crime occurs, we will honor the victims' memories by committing ourselves to our ongoing responsibility to being prepared, trained and ready to respond to emergencies here in Spokane—regardless of risk.
