West Central Fire Burns Garage

Narrative:
The Spokane Fire Department responded fire companies to a garage fire early this morning in the West Central neighborhood. Engine and Ladder 4 from their Browne's Addition station location of Riverside and Maple were the first units to arrive. They found a garage that was well involved in flames behind a residence. A quick knockdown of the fire was achieved after 10 minutes and nearby dwellings were protected from the advancing fire. The fire appears to have started near a dumpster located next to the garage. No injuries were reported. An investigator from the Spokane Fire Department Special Investigation Unit responded to the scene and fire crews will remain with him on the scene throughout the early morning hours assisting with overhaul, final extinguishment and finding a cause. The time of the alarm was 3:52 A.M. and the address was 1316 W. Mallon. Other fire crews involved in the successful extinguishment of this fire were from station 1 at Riverside and Browne, station 3 at Indiana and Ash, and station 2 at North Foothills and Nevada.

Cause:
Under investigation by the Spokane Fire Department Special Investigation Unit.

Damage:
The detached wood frame garage was heavily damaged by fire. Contents found inside also received heavy fire and smoke damage.
